DLT-4 Tapes

DLT uses linear serpentine recording with multiple tracks on half-inch (12.7 mm) wide tape. The cartridges contain a single reel and the tape is pulled out of the cartridge by means of a leader tape attached to the takeup reel inside the drive. The drive leader tape is buckled to the cartridge leader during the load process. Tape speed and tension are controlled electronically via the reel motors; there is no capstan. The tape is guided by 4 to 6 rollers that touch only the back side of the tape. Tape material is metal particle tape (MP/AMP.)

It features the use of latest advances in binder chemistry and uses a unique high-grade metal particle formulation. By bringing together both solid and liquid lubricants in the tape binder system, tape and head wear are reduced while repelling airborne particles that could affect read and write head performance. This tape media has a data transfer rate of 6MB/s.The Quantum THXKD-02 DLT-IV tape cartridge has an archival life of 30 years and is approved by ANSI X3B5 and adapted by ECMA and ISO.

Sony's DL4TK88 DLT-IV is a Digital linear Tape 4(DLT-4) format tape cartridge. It has a 557 meters tape length which enables a native data storage capacity of 40GB that can be expanded upto 80GB when compressed. It features the use of Azimuth recording technology that offers high-density recording and outstanding data integrity with ultra-low bit error rate. Sony latest binder system helps this tape cartridge achieve a 1,000,000 head pass durability and reduces wear on the heads as well. This tape media has a compressed data transfer rate of 12MB/s. The Sony DL4TK88 tape cartridge has an archival life of 30 years and is compatible with DLT 4000,7000,8000 and VS80 tape drives.

The cartridge shell of the 59H3040 is black in color and contains a tape 1800 feet in length. The 59H3040 DLT-IV tape has a 40 GB native capacity and an 80 GB compressed capacity. The IBM 59H3040 has a durability of 1,000,000 head passes. In archival storage the 59H3040 can last for up to 30 years.
